I little about me : Samantha Jones is a new media artist, collaborator, educator,researcher and consultant. Based primarily in Liverpool, UK, She develops intelligent systems that analyze and respond to the physical environment. Predominantly creating site specific work in sound, real-time video, 3D environments, light and electronics, to create multi-sensory public installation’s, that respond and intervene into both physical and social space, to change how we perceive, engage and use the public realm. She is currently researching and developing new work in response to the themes of emotionally intelligent buildings and creative communities-creative cities. Working with scientists, health specialists, architects and urban designers to explore City Interactive, which will lead to a long term research project with FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative technology)

City Interactive
We are increasingly living in cities that are simultaneously interactive on a physical and a virtual level. Ubiquitous technology systems are being super-imposed (GPS/Wimax) onto the physical plans of streets, zones and roads. These systems are being matched by virtual modelling systems that track, personalise and network cities. Taking Charles Landry’s Creative Cities paper as a starting position, that cities cannot be creative unless they are diverse, this project draws together research based in a multi-disciplinary environment of town planning, social sciences, urban geography and architecture. It questions how, once we have mapped the city psychologically as well as physically and virtually, artists can then intervene
